What families usually want to know

How the first lesson works, which length suits their child, whether travel is covered, how payment works and what happens if a lesson needs moving — all of that is set out clearly on this page.

What private lessons include

A clearer look at how lessons are delivered

This page explains the day-to-day reality of private lessons: where they happen, what they can cover, who they suit, how pricing works and what parents can expect before booking.

Home-based delivery

Lessons happen in the student’s home, which keeps things convenient for families and helps children learn in a familiar environment. That often makes the first few sessions feel more relaxed and less pressured.

Five lesson instruments

Private lessons are available in drums, bass, guitar, piano and singing. Lessons can stay focused on one instrument or build deeper confidence in a student’s main interest over time.

Tailored lesson structure

Sessions are not one-size-fits-all. Elliot adjusts pacing, song choice, activities and difficulty so the lesson feels appropriate for the student’s age, confidence, attention span and musical goals.

Encouraging first steps

Beginners can start with simple songs, rhythm work, basic coordination and easy wins that build belief quickly. The aim is to make music feel achievable from the start, not overwhelming.

Real progress over time

As students settle in, lessons can expand into stronger technique, musicality, coordination, listening skills, performance confidence, song learning and personal targets that feel motivating rather than forced.

Professional delivery

Families get a service that is clear from the first enquiry: DBS checked, insured, reliable, parent-aware and built around supportive teaching rather than just turning up and playing through exercises.

What lessons can focus on

Piano

Reading basics, chords, simple songs, hand coordination, musicality and confidence at the keyboard.

Singing

Breath, pitch, vocal confidence, song interpretation and feeling comfortable using the voice clearly.

Guitar

Chord changes, rhythm playing, riffs, song-based learning and building hand coordination steadily.

Bass

Timing, groove, note placement, simple basslines, feel and learning how bass supports real music.

Drums

Pulse, coordination, groove, fills, structure and playing in time with music in a way that builds confidence without rushing the basics.

What a lesson usually feels like

  • A calm start so the student settles in and feels comfortable.
  • Warm-up or recap work that connects to the previous lesson.
  • Song learning, skill building or technique practice matched to the student’s current level.
  • Clear explanation and repetition where needed, without making the lesson feel heavy.
  • Encouragement that keeps students trying rather than worrying about getting things wrong.
  • A simple sense of progress by the end of the session, whether that is a finished section, a new skill or a clearer next step.

Who this usually suits best

Private lessons work especially well for children who want individual attention, need a comfortable home setting, or would benefit from a lesson pace that can be adjusted fully around them.

How private lessons work

1

Start with an enquiry

Send a message with the student’s age, instrument, postcode area and preferred evenings so Elliot can confirm whether the lesson route and timing are realistic.

2

Begin with the first lesson

The intro lesson gives space to settle in, work out the starting point and begin building a lesson plan that feels achievable and encouraging.

3

Build a routine that suits the student

Once the best length and rhythm are clear, lessons can continue in a consistent way that gives progress without feeling rushed or heavy.

4

Keep moving forward clearly

That might mean learning songs, improving technique, building confidence, or simply giving the student a positive musical routine they enjoy each week.

Who private lessons are ideal for

  • Children who would benefit from one-to-one teaching and more individual pacing.
  • Families who want music lessons at home rather than travelling to a studio or venue.
  • Beginners who need a calm and confidence-building first step into music.
  • Students who want to learn favourite songs alongside stronger basic skills.
  • Young people who are building consistency, musical foundations and self-belief over time.

What parents can expect

Clear communication, realistic expectations, a friendly atmosphere and sessions that aim to feel enjoyable as well as productive. Parents are welcome to remain on site and can sit in if that supports the student.

What makes the private lesson offer feel strong

The private lesson page should not just say what is taught — it should make families feel confident about what the experience will actually be like. The aim is to communicate structure, warmth, professionalism and a sense that the student will be supported properly from the first enquiry onward.

Frequently asked questions

Common private lesson questions

What happens in the first lesson?

The first lesson is an introduction. It gives Elliot a chance to see the student’s starting point, learn what they enjoy, get them comfortable, and suggest the best way forward without pressure.

Which lesson length is usually best?

For many younger beginners, 30 minutes is enough to keep the lesson focused and positive. Older students or those wanting more depth often benefit from 60 minutes. 90 minutes is best when a longer, more project-style session is useful.

Do parents need to stay during lessons?

Parents are welcome to remain on site and can sit in if that helps. Some students prefer a parent nearby at first, while others settle better once they are comfortable with the routine.

Do you only teach complete beginners?

No. Lessons can work for complete beginners and also for students who already play a little and want more consistency, guidance, confidence or stronger foundations.

Can lessons include favourite songs?

Yes. Favourite songs are often a very useful part of the learning process, especially when they help the student stay motivated. Elliot balances enjoyable material with skill-building.

What if I live outside Pudsey?

That can still be possible. Travel fees may apply depending on distance, and Elliot can confirm the practical route and cost before anything is booked.

Safeguarding

Elliot holds a valid DBS check for working with children. Lessons are delivered with safeguarding in mind, and parents or guardians are welcome to sit in.

At least 24 hours’ notice is requested to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at 50% of the lesson fee.

If Elliot cancels

If Elliot ever needs to cancel, the lesson will be rearranged at no extra cost. The aim is always to keep things fair and straightforward for families.
